Over the weekend in Lewistown, the Havre High volleyball team played its first matches under first-year head coach Cassie Krueger. As the Blue Ponies looked to start the season strong, they finished third in the tipoff tournament.
The Ponies started the tournament Friday morning by splitting a two-set match with Billings Central. The Rams won the first set, 20-18, while the Ponies responded by winning the second set, 20-16.
Later on Friday, the Ponies split a match with Livingston. The Ponies dominated the first set as they won, 20-7. But Livingston bounced back to win the second set, 20-17. The Ponies split another match, this time against Hardin. The Bulldogs won the first set, 20-15, and Havre won the second set, 20-19.
After splitting their first three matches of the tournament, the Ponies went on a run. Against East Helena, the Ponies won in two sets (20-15, 20-19). In its match against Laurel, Havre won in two sets (20-16, 20-17). The Ponies ended Friday with a split against Lockwood. Lockwood won the first set, 20-17, and the Ponies won the second set, 20-19.
The Ponies opened Saturday by defeating Sidney in two sets (20-15, 20-6). Havre then defeated Glendive in two sets (20-15, 20-17). The Ponies then split their match with Lewistown as the Golden Eagles won the first set, 20-15, and the Ponies won the second set, 20-15.
The Ponies ended the weekend by defeating Miles City in two sets (20-19, 20-15). With their performance over the weekend, the Ponies finished third in the tournament. Hardin took first in the tournament while Billings Central finished second.
The HHS volleyball team will continue the season with a match against Browning this Friday at Havre High Gymnasium.
