Under first-year head coach Cassie Krueger, the Havre High volleyball team will get the season started with the Blue/White Scrimmage at Havre High Gymnasium this Saturday. As the Blue Ponies get on the court this weekend, Krueger looks forward to seeing how they look after one week of practice.
“The expectation here is to start getting a feel for what our lineups are going to look like once the season starts, but also to start observing the girls and seeing how much they’ve absorbed in the last week,” Krueger said.
The Blue/White Scrimmage will start Saturday morning with a match that will be played by the HHS C-squad, with some junior varsity players thrown in the mix. Then after that match, the HHS varsity volleyball team will play the junior varsity team.
Several returning players for the Ponies will look to play well this weekend. After losing several seniors to graduation, Ariana Gary will look to take on a bigger role for the Ponies. Krueger also looks forward to watching the other veterans play this weekend.
“I very much look forward to watching our seniors during their senior season and seeing what they bring to the table,” Krueger said.
Krueger is also excited to watch the younger volleyball players compete this weekend. Krueger looks forward to watching sophomore Macy Brandon and freshman Tahlyn Olson play in this weekend’s scrimmage. Along side those players, Krueger is excited to see what the future of HHS volleyball has to offer.
“I think our C-squad team has a lot of very talented athletes and I’m looking forward to watching them,” Krueger said. “We’re evaluating them right now to see what kind of positions and roles they’re going to fill.”
The Ponies are coming off two straight seasons where they finished second in the Class A State Volleyball Tournament. As the Ponies look to keep up their winning ways this season, the work will start this weekend in the scrimmage. As she takes over the successful program, Krueger is excited to see what these new-look Ponies will look like in their first action of the 2023 campaign.
“I’m looking forward to this team and seeing how well we all mesh together as players and coaches because so far, it’s been absolutely phenomenal,” Krueger said. “In a game-like situation, I think naturally it’ll all just come together and just be a very good dynamic.”
The HHS volleyball Blue/White Scrimmage will take place Saturday morning at HHS Gymnasium. The C-squad match will start at 10 a.m. and then the varsity versus junior varsity match will start at 11:30 a.m.
