Region sees light fire week despite dangerous conditions

Last week was a fairly quiet week for fire activity in this region of Montana as counties and agencies in the area decided to stick with their current fire restrictions.

In a regional fire call Tuesday morning, National Weather Service in Glasgow reported that while some areas might see temperatures cool a bit today, the region as a whole looks poised to stay in the 90s for most of the week.

Thursday appears to be the most dangerous day for fire conditions since it will be hot, dry and possibly windy, Weather Service in Great Falls reported, which is why Weather Service has already issued an alert for that day.

The Weather Service reported that there may be some showers and thunderstorms over the weekend but these will likely be in isolated areas, not regionwide.

As for recent fire activity this past week, Sheridan, Blaine, Golden Valley, Petroleum and Wheatland counties all reported no fires over the past week.

Fort Belknap said they had three fires over the past week, one human-caused and two equipment-caused, but all three burned less than three acres.

Hill County reported four fires including a large structure fire Saturday night, but there is no estimated acreage count yet.

Judith Basin County had one fire burn about 100 acres.

None of the counties or agencies changed their fire restrictions this week.
