The Little Shell Veterans and Elders Powwow is set for Aug. 26-27 at University of Providence in Great Falls.
The two-day cultural event is free and open to the public. Grand entry is each day at noon. People are invited to come and enjoy the sights and sounds of a fun-filled weekend of dancing, drumming, food trucks, raffles and more.
A Moc Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 26, at 9 a.m. followed by a pipe ceremony at 10 a.m.
The master of ceremonies will be Clint Brown and Jay Young Running Crane will be arena director. The head drum is Young Grey Horse, the head male dancer is Conan Cuts the rope and the head female dancer Riley Werk.
A memorial family special will be held in memory of Fish Wolf Robe Fish, Terrance Dusty Bull and Alberta Fish Sorrell, who was a former Little Shell head woman dancer.
The powwow will have multiple categories, including Golden Age 60 and Older Men’s and Golden Age 60 and Older Women’s.
It also will have Traditional, Fast Fancy, Grass and Chicken in men’s, boy’s teen and boy’s dance categories.
Women will have Traditional, Fancy Shawl and Jingle for women’s, girl’s teen and girl’s dance categories.
The powwow will have 50/50 and star quilt raffle tickets available, and vendor spaces are available.
