Havre Trails is hosting a hike on the Rotary Canyon Trail loop in Beaver Creek Park Saturday morning.
A release from the group says the hike will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Rotary Canyon Trailhead at Bear Paw Lake. But people can also meet at 8 a.m. at the HRDC parking lot to carpool or caravan out to the trailhead.
The hike, about 3 miles long, is of moderate difficulty due to some technical and rocky spots, the release said, and the hike time is expected to be one-and-a-half to two hours long.
The group, which has worked the past few years to develop the trail, said in the release that this is a loop hike that first follows the Upper Rotary Canyon Trail then the Lower Rotary Canyon Trail near Bear Paw Lake. The trail has panoramic views of the lake and the mountains along with the creek. Hikers will also see a variety of wildflowers and birds.
Because of some brushy areas and several rocky areas that require extra attention, they recommend hikers wear long pants and sturdy hiking boots or shoes with good traction and/or hiking poles. They also recommend hikers use bug spray, sunscreen, sunglasses and/or a hat, and carry water and snacks. Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on a leash.
Havre Trails offers the hikes to the public, for free. An RSVP is not required, but people who register at https://forms.gle/9n9L1VRjqoe64P2H9 will receive a notice if a cancellation occurs due to weather or other issues.
