Hill County Council on Aging Director resigns

Hill County Council on Aging Director Bill Lanier has announced his resignation in a letter to the Hill County Commission which was read at their weekly business meeting Thursday.

Lanier’s letter said there is no one thing that has led to his resignation and he does so with mixed emotions, but he’s been given an opportunity to take back his old position at the Havre Job Center as a workforce consultant.

“I appreciate the opportunity you have given me as director of the Hill County Council on Aging,” his letter read. “I wish nothing but the best for all of Hill County.”

During the meeting the commission also appointed Dona Woods and Jeanne Gingery to the H. Earl Clack Memorial Museum Board.

The commission also approved a memorandum of understanding between the Hill County Council on Aging and Senior Medicaid Patrol to provide funding for outreach and education for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries to avoid fraud, waste and abuse, as well as approving a contract for the removal of trees on the south side of the RSID 10 levy.

Later in the meeting the commissioners also approved a request by the Fresno Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited use of county property to create an RV dump station between the junction of Fresno and Tailwater roads.

Commissioner Mark Peterson said it would include a well with a drain field, a cistern and septic tank, a project will be funded by the chapter with the exception of the approaches from the county road into the area.

He said they are asking for a 40-year agreement to use that property for the project that they are hoping to expand into a fish cleaning site as well.

Peterson said it’s something that’s needed in the area, as there are limited options for people otherwise.

Commissioner Sheri Williams said it would be great for locals and for travelers heading to Glacier County, and will hopefully draw people to Fresno for camping.

Hill County Commissioner Jake Strissel said he thinks it’s an excellent idea and the chapter has been great to work with.

“I think this is a win-win for Hill County,” he said.

Peterson also announced that the county is looking at adding five more county cellphones for their officials.
