Calendar ideas
You know, Lord, a friend shared her silly July calendar page, with chuckles, plus some good thoughts. She mentioned that they, and we, had just missed "Fried Chicken Day." She was surprised to know that sliced bread was first sold in 1928! "Goodness sakes," she said, "Why didn't grandma tell Mama so that we'd know that?" We chuckled.
Then her son stepped up and asked, "What else is on that page, besides probably the full moon?" He snickered, grabbed the calendar page and said, "Mom! Look here, there's a 'I Forgot Day'! Too bad that didn't happen while school was still going, I sure could have used that thought." More chuckles.
Cynthia said, "Alex, look! We don't want to miss 'Hot Dog Day.' That day is coming up; your dad will love that day, right?" More giggles.
"Hey, mom, there are two more strange days, I don't know if I like either one of them; it's 'Give Something Away Day' and then there's an 'All or Nothing Day' – what do you suppose that means?"
"Maybe we'll figure that out when the day arrives, right, Kiddo? Hey, I turned the page; I like the idea of an 'Ice Cream Sandwich Day.' You want to help make that and we can share some of that with our elderly neighbors?"
"Mom, you missed the most important day that's coming up. You know how everyone loves your chocolate chip cookies? There's really a day for them; it's on a Friday! I'll help you make them, then help you take them to folks who love those cookies. Oh, can I have a 'few' cookies, too, before we deliver?" Chuckles.....
Cynthia added; "Oh – all this reminds me of 2 Corinthians 9:7: 'God loves a cheerful giver who gives from the heart. Not grudgingly or out of necessity.' Yes, Alex, you can be my helper."
Love, Mara
