Over the past few weeks, the Havre Northstars American Legion baseball club has found its stride. Over their last 20 games, the Northstars have gone 18-2. But the Northstars will face a tough test tonight when they head on the road to play the Lethbridge Miners in a doubleheader.
The Northstars have played well lately, but the Miners have given them some trouble this season. In their first meeting of the season back in June, Lethbridge won 15-2 against the Northstars. Then in a doubleheader at Legion Field earlier this month, the Miners swept Havre by scores of 6-3 and 7-4.
Since those two losses to the Miners, the Northstars have gotten back in a groove with eight straight wins to improve their record to 34-15-1 this season. If the Northstars want to get revenge against the Miners and continue their winning streak, their best players will have to step up tonight.
On the mound, the Northstars have several pitchers they can turn to as they look to limit the Lethbridge offense. Terek Shipp leads Havre with 49.2 innings pitched this season as he has 47 strikeouts and a 2.643 ERA this season. Kale Reno might also get some time on the mound where he has a 5-3 record and 37 strikeouts in 46.2 innings pitched this season.
The Northstars will look to get rolling at the plate, which they have done consistently throughout their winning streak. Conner McKay has made an impact with his .379 batting average and 26 RBIs this season. Ezra Pyle will look to produce at the plate where he has a .371 batting average and 32 RBIs this season.
After tonight, the Northstars will only have four more games left in the regular season. They will then begin the postseason with the district tournament in Vauxhall next weekend. With the postseason coming, the Northstars will look to stay hot tonight.
The Havre Northstars will play the Lethbridge Miners in a doubleheader in Lethbridge tonight starting at 5 p.m.
