Fire destroys shed and garage Sunday morning

A fire burned down a shed and damaged garage just after midnight Sunday morning, killing a dog and causing significant property damage on 13th Street.

No one was available to provide information Monday, and Havre Fire Chief Nathan Courtnage said Wednesday he could not comment until the investigation was complete.

Courtnage said this morning the investigation found that Sunday's fire burned a shed and backyard, eventually spreading to a nearby garage, which was also considered a total loss.

Courtnage said a dog died in the fire, and a pickup truck was destroyed along with a boat.

The police dispatch log showed that 16 different callers reported the fire on the 700 Block of 13th Street.

Courtnage said three engines and 11 firefighters were dispatched at 12:17 a.m.

The fire was considered controlled by 1:30 a.m. but department personnel stayed onsite until 9:54 a.m. to make sure the fire didn't rekindle.

Courtnage said the cause of the fire is undetermined and their investigation is closed.
