News you can use
In 1942, John Patrick McShane, son of Irish immigrants Patrick and Katy, was born under the shadow of the Stewart Mine in Butte, Montana. He left this world peacefully in June of 2023 at Discovery Care Center in Hamilton, MT. His final months were full of daily family visits even if sometimes Dad's contribution was just an impressive snore. We are eternally grateful to our heroes - the amazing RNs, CNAs, and traveling nurses who took such amazing care of our dad.
John was a devoted son, a proud brother, a lucky husband of 55 years, a busy father of four, and a smiling grandfather of nine.
He was also an alter boy, a miner, a bartender, a teacher, a groundskeeper and, finally, a right of way agent for 32 years at Hill County Electric Cooperative. He collected stories along the way of all the people he met in rural Montana.
To us, John was the storyteller, the garage cat rescuer, recycler, Fresno boater, fishing line untangler, oil checker, St. Patrick's Day celebrator, and devoted Hallmark watcher.
He is missed by his wife, Mary Louise; his children and their spouses, Shawn and Sharon, Steven and Neomie, Margaret and Greg and Kathleen and AJ; his grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Jacob, Braden, Luke, Jonathan, Olivia, Eli, Jack and Molly; his sisters Marie and Sheila; any nieces, nephews, and of course, Sport, the dog.
Don't worry Dad, we'll call each other to see what we're up to even though you aren't here to pass the phone.
Soon you will be able to find John near his parents and his brother-in-law Jim at Holy Cross Cemetery in Butte. A smorgasbord, as Dad called it, will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, pick up the phone for John and see what someone in your family is up to.
