Rain showers expected on Independence Day holiday

Haze expected through north-central Montana today

Smoky haze was in the air in this region today, with a chance of showers in the forecast tonight and through the Independence Day holiday Tuesday.

The haze was predicted to remain through early tonight. The air quality monitoring stations in Havre, Malta and Great Falls all showed moderate air quality effects this morning, which the state Department of Environmental Quality Today's Air website says is acceptable but may have some risk for some people, especially those unusually sensitive for air pollution.

The other stations shown on the site showed good air quality across the state.

But some rain may cramp the celebration of Independence Day.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for a chance of showers early Tuesday morning from Chester to Havre and south to Big Sandy, with a chance of showers the morning of the Fourth tapering into the afternoon.

The Hays-Lodge Pole area prediction called for a chance of showers this morning, then stopping today with a slight chance of showers between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The forecast by Harlem predicted rain showers after 5 a.m. Tuesday and between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Highs are expected to be in the 60s Tuesday.

After the holiday, the forecast for the rest of the week predicts sunshine and highs in the 70s and 80s.

Showers and rain showers creep back into the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, with highs expected to remain in the 70s or low 80s.
