As the month turns to July, the Havre Northstars American Legion baseball club will look to kick it into high gear heading into the final month of the regular season. This weekend, the Northstars will look to make the most of the busy slate ahead of them as they have a doubleheader on the road against the Great Falls Chargers today and then four games this weekend at home at Legion Field.
The Northstars begin their busy slate this afternoon with a doubleheader against the Great Falls Chargers. The Northstars and the Chargers have not faced each other since an early doubleheader in early May. In those games, the Northstars defended home field with 14-2 and 8-5 victories.
The Northstars will return to the Hi-Line to host the Lethbridge Miners in a doubleheader at Legion Field this Saturday night. In their lone meeting this season, the Miners got the better of Havre with a 15-2 victory at the Harold Gjerde Memorial Tournament earlier this month.
The Northstars will then finish the weekend with a doubleheader against the Fort Macleod Royals at Legion Field on Sunday afternoon. This past weekend on the road, the Northstars took care of business with a 15-1 and a 17-4 win over the Royals in conference play.
The Northstars have a 24-13-1 record this season and they have found their stride with an eight-game winning streak heading into this weekend. As the Northstars look to keep rolling, several players will have to continue their strong seasons into this weekend.
On the mound, Terek Shipp will look to continue his solid season as he has a 4-3 record, 40 strikeouts and a 2.561 ERA in 41 innings pitched this summer. Kale Reno should get some time on the mound this weekend as he has a 4-3 record and 33 strikeouts in 39.2 innings pitched this season.
The Northstars will also look to stay hot at the plate this weekend. Conner McKay has made an impact this season with a .386 batting average and 20 RBIs. Drake Berreth can also produce at the plate as he has a .375 batting average and 28 RBIs this summer. Along with his play on the mound, Shipp will look to do well at the plate where he has a .363 batting average and 27 RBIs this season.
The Havre Northstars will head on the road to face the Great Falls Chargers in a doubleheader today starting at 1 p.m. The Northstars will then host the Lethbridge Miners in a doubleheader at Legion Field this Saturday starting at 5 p.m. The Northstars will then start their doubleheader against the Fort Macleod Royals at Legion Field this Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
