With the Great Northern Fair just weeks away, the organizers of the Jr. Rodeo are reminding youth 4-18 years old that the last day for entry is July 14.
Organized again by the Hi-Line Rodeo Team, the Havre Jr. Rodeo will be held Wednesday, July 19, at the Great Northern Arena, and new this year is a start time of 3 p.m.
With so many events and so many entrants each year, the rodeo generally runs late into the night, but organizers said this year’s start-time, which is two-hours earlier than past years, should help get through all the events earlier.
The events cost $15 each, unless otherwise noted, and by age group are:
Youth, 4-8: flags, poles, barrels, goat untying, sheep riding (4-6) and boot race (6-younger, no cost).
Junior, 9-13: breakaway roping, poles, barrels, boys goat tying, girls goat tying, steer riding and flag race.
Senior, 14-18: barrels, poles, tie down roping, goat tying and breakaway.
All ages: team roping, $20 per team, and monkey on a rope, $40 per team.
Organizer Michelle Burchard said prizes will be awarded to top winners in each event. Money raised from entries will go toward Hi-Line Rodeo Team, which hosts a local buckle series each winter.
Entry forms can be found at Norman’s Ranch and Sportswear in Havre or Chinook Veterinary Clinic in Chinook. All entries must include a completed entry form, with the release form notarized, a copy of the entrant’s birth certificate and the payment.
Complete entries can be hand delivered by July 14, but if submitted by mail, they must be postmarked by July 8 to Hi-Line Rodeo Team, P.O. Box 1497, Havre, MT 59501.
