Local Golf Report: A Father's Day he won't forget

Before I get to the local golf news that was last week, I have a special congratulations to say.

To one of my best friends, and friend to so many who read this column each week, congrats to Brett Gilman on a very special hole-in-one at Missoula Country Club last week. Aces are always special, but, this one happened on Father’s Day, and to top it all off, Brett told me he was using one of his last father’s Prov 1’s, and, even more fitting, they had Bill’s initials on it.

I didn’t tell Brett this when he told me this last week, but his texts about the ace, one what is my favorite hole at MCC, the Par-3 17th, brought me to tears. It was just a meant-to-be moment for Brett, and it couldn’t have happened to a better dude. So congrats Gilly. June 18, 2023, is a day you won’t soon forget.

In men’s league golf last week, the first half of the regular season came to a close. Last Tuesday night saw Tire Rama earn high-team honors with 23 points, while the father-son duo of Jeremy and Jeff Jensen each shot 34 to share low gross. Roger Antisdel was low net with a 31.5.

Last Wednesday night saw Michelob Ultra win high team with 25 points, while Jim Kato shot 2-under to earn low gross. Chris Owens was also low net.

Hole 19 won the first half of Tuesday night, while BA Ranch, Myers Ranch & Baltrusch Land and Cattle and Pasco Ready Mix finished in the top four. Master Sports finished first on Wednesday night, while Gallery Lounge, Michelob and RJS 2 also qualified for the playoffs.

The Northstar Athletics Tournament was held at Beaver Creek Golf Course last Saturday. Next up at BCGC as the prestigious Havre Wrestling Club Tournament.
