Susie D. Stahl was born July 31, 1929, to Jacob and Kathrina Hofer in Beadle County Huron, South Dakota. She moved to King Ranch Colony, Lewistown, Montana, with her family in 1935. On October 25, 1959, Susie married the love of her life, Dave Stahl, at Deerfield Colony. She worked alongside her husband at the dairy barn and was also Kranken Mutter for 12 years.

Susie resided at Deerfield for 15 years and, in 1974, the family moved to Gildford Colony. When her husband became financial manager in 1978, she was his faithful helper. Susie was also Kleine Schul Ankela (kindergarten teacher) for a few years until she became head cook in 1984, a position she held for 13 years. People still recall how good her food tasted.

Watching Grandma and Grandpa throughout the years was a privilege. They were dedicated to one another for 64 wonderful years, always caring for and helping each other. Grandma enjoyed singing and sitting next to Grandpa as he read from the Bible. Grandma Susie was truly the love of his life, his yellow rose.

Although we remember Grandma Susie as a woman of few words, she was very knowledgeable. She was a great role model, truly leading by example. When faced with hardships she never lost the faith, trusting the Lord in every aspect of her life. She never complained about anything, no matter what life threw at her. Her meek and quiet nature drew people to her naturally. She was very modest and neat, not afraid to teach us to be discreet and take pride in ourselves.

She loved to knit and crochet. Her favorite pastime was reading. Grandma was always willing to help out wherever she could on the colony. Up to age 88, Grandma still wanted to help the ladies do dishes and make perogies in the kitchen.

Family meant everything to Susie. She loved going to visit them every chance she could. Her grandchildren were the light of her world. As they were growing up, she loved reading to them and telling stories. We couldn’t wait for Grandma to come over for story time. We will miss her so much and will forever cherish every memory we have of her.

Grandma Susie will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her dear husband, Dave Stahl; son Min. Dave Stahl Jr., daughter-in-law, MaryAnn Stahl, and son Jonathan Stahl, all of Gildford; grandchildren, Wesley, Kathleen, Duane, Kevin, Rosemary and Darrel, all of Gildford; sisters-in-law J. Elizabeth Hofer and G. Elizabeth Hofer, both of Surprise Creek; as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in–law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Greeting her in Heaven with rejoicing hearts are her parents, Jacob and Kathrina; sons Sam Stahl, Joseph, Timothy and Daniel; sisters, Kathryn, Rachel, and Maria; and brothers, Jake, Sam, Joe, and George.
