Obituary - Alice V. (Vande Sandt) Wong

Alice V. (Vande Sandt) Wong, 96, passed away peacefully May 2nd, 2023, at her home in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was cared for by her family.

Alice was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Havre, Montana, to Florence and Carl Vande Sandt. She grew up on the family farm, located 20 miles north of Gildford, Montana.

Alice lived an amazing life, leaving Gildford after high school graduation, attending college in Missoula, Montana, and eventually making her way to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a secretary for the State Department.

With an even more adventurous spirit she applied for overseas work and in 1955 moved to Indonesia where she met her husband of 60 years, Anthony L. Wong (who passed away in 2017). From Indonesia Alice and family moved to Thailand, Laos, Taiwan, and eventually settled in Hawaii.

She left Montana wanting to see the world and she certainly did. Not bad for a girl who rode her horse to school and carved her name onto a bridge over the Milk River.

Alice is survived by her three children, Anthony L. Wong (wife Vanya), Leslie R. Wong and Lisa A. W. Moore (husband Keith), and two grandchildren Allison and Erika Moore. She is also survived by her siblings Gilbert "Bud" Vande Sandt, Lloyd "Hap" Vande Sandt and Marjorie Bourne, and many nieces and nephews that were very dear to her.

Alice felt very strongly about the importance of education and reading. She had a strong penchant for sharing articles of interest and photographs with her and friends. She enjoyed investment publications, history, her pets, morning coffee with grand-niece Jami when she visited, and chocolate ice cream.

Alice was an incredibly generous and thoughtful person. She took an interest in everyone she met and tried to help those she thought she could.

Alice's spirit is greatly missed but she has left us with wonderful memories and sayings. And I'm "not just clacking my molars."
