Before we get into the tournament and league action from this week in Havre golf, a reminder.
You can now sign up for the 2023 Youth Summer League at Prairie Farms Golf Course. The league runs every Tuesday July 11-July 18 from 8 a.m. to noon. It’s open to kids entering 6th through 9th grades and is limited to 25 players. Call Prairie Farms for more information.
And I’d like to add that, having coached Havre High golf for five years, we’ve had some very successful players come out of the Summer League. Jeremy Jensen does an amazing job with it, so definitely something to consider.
Tournaments last week included the Northern Football Tournament at Prairie Farms and the Heda Tournament at Beaver Creek. Next up is the Natalie Patrick Foundation Tournament this weekend at Prairie Farms, and the North Star Athletics Tournament next Saturday at BCGC. In men’s league last Tuesday at Prairie Farms Hole 19 and FBA Ranch shared high-team honors with 21.5 points each. Jeremy Jensen, Kyle Sheppard and Cody Mattfeldt all shot rounds of 37 for low gross, while Dan Wagner was low net at 33.5.
Last Wednesday night saw Independence Bank fire high team with 22.5 points. C.J. Evans, Jordy Donovan and Matt Hedstrom were sharing low gross, each shooting even-par rounds of 36. Jace Stokes was low net at 32.5.
Last Thursday night in ladies league at Prairie saw Sydney Haider, Mary Pizzini, Patti Nault and Carol Culp earn high team honors with 20.5 points. Ali Ward was low gross with a 38, while Karla Bolken was low net with a 30.
Finally, it’s U.S. Open week, and the venue is the famed Los Angles Country Club. I don’t know much about the course, because it hasn’t been a PGA Tour or Open venue in a long, long time, but what I do know is Brooks Kopeka is looking like the dude who won a couple of Open’s on really hard courses way back. LIV or PGA Tour events, Koepka is seemingly never the guy. But on a brutal major championship track, when healthy, how can you bet against him? So that’s my pick for this week.
