The school year has come to an end for Havre High School and so has another great year of sports for the Blue Ponies. Over the course of the last 10 months, many Ponies excelled in their sports to earn All-State honors.
This past fall, the HHS football team went 6-3 and qualified for the postseason. For their seasons leading the staunch HHS defense, Kale Van Campen earned All-State honors as an inside linebacker and Jacob Herring earned All-State honors as an outside linebacker.
The HHS volleyball team had a strong season this past fall as it finished second at the Class A State tournament for the second year in a row. For such a successful season, Avery Carlson, Yelena Miller and Molly Huse all earned All-State honors to end their careers.
At the Class A State Cross Country Meet this past fall, Havre’s Caleb Tomac finished fourth in the race with a time of 16:39.32 to earn All-State honors. From the HHS golf team, Shea Reber earned All-State honors after finishing ninth at the state tournament.
The Ponies continued to excel in sports during the winter. The HHS girls basketball had another dominant season to win its third straight Class A State championship. In their final season with the program, both Carlson and Miller earned All-State honors. Ariana Gary and Amaya Jarvis both earned All-State honors as well for their contributions to the state championship team.
The HHS wrestling team also had a successful winter where several wrestlers placed at state to earn All-State honors. Tristan Stygles took first in the 138-pound weight class while Van Campen took first at 172 pounds at the state tournament. Reinhard Bold earned All-State honors as he took second at 145 pounds. Matt Lemer finished third at 113 pounds to earn another All-State selection for the Ponies.
As the program continues to grow, the HHS girls wrestling team had some wrestlers earn All-State honors. Clara Laird took second at 185 pounds at state to earn All-State honors. Aubree Erickson finished fifth at 145 pounds and Aliyah Stiffarm placed sixth at 235 pounds to earn All-State honors.
The HHS swim teams had a solid season this past winter, ending with a fourth-place finish for both teams at the state meet to end the season. Several Ponies swam well at that meet to finish the year with All-State honors.
From the HHS girls swim team, Elizabeth Carroll earned All-State honors as she placed second in the 200-yard IM and she took fourth in the 100-yard backstroke at the state meet. Kyla Burchard finished second in the 100-yard butterfly and Mackenzie Dean placed fourth in the 200 IM to earn All-State honors. Other All-State swimmers include Liliana Smith who took fourth in the 500-yard freestyle and Ainsley Courtnage who took fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The HHS boys swim team had several All-State swimmers. Conner McKay finished his career by taking third in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle at state. Blake Taylor earned All-State honors as he placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke and fifth in the 200-yard IM.
Carson Sandstrom ended the year as an All-State swimmer as he placed fourth in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle at the state meet. Micah Cammon was an All-State swimmer as he took fifth in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in the 50 freestyle. Koby Preputin took fifth in the 500-yard freestyle at state to earn All-State honors.
The Ponies also earned All-State honors by placing in the relay events at the state meet. The girls team took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay, fourth in the 200-yard medley relay and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay at the state meet. The boys team ended the year by taking third in the 400-yard freestyle relay, fourth in the 200-yard medley relay and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The HHS softball team had several All-State selections after winning the Eastern A Divisional and finishing fourth at the Class A State Tournament this past spring. Carlson once again picked up an All-State selection in her senior year while her teammates Elle Verploegen, Camille Keeley and Jersi Morse earned All-State honors for leading the team to success.
The HHS track and field teams had several All-State selections this past spring. From the boys team, Tomac and Henry earned All-State honors after placing at state in the long-distance runs. From the girls team, Kyanna Jarvis earned All-State honors in multiple events while Kaydance Reiter and Macee May also placed at state in their events. Jarvis, Reiter, Macy Brandon, Carolyn Thomas and Amaya Jarvis earned All-State honors for their contributions to the relay teams that placed at state.
Many of these athletes will return to compete for the Ponies next school year. With great athletes like these continuing to represent the Hi-Line, Havre High athletics should remain a force to be reckoned with.
