'Twelfth Night' opens Friday at Beaver Creek Park

Ren Faire running in conjunction at Eagles Campground

Montana Actors' Theatre's "Twelfth Night" will open at the Eagles Campground on Beaver Creek Park Friday along with a Ren Faire featuring costumes, vendors and children's games.

The faire will open at 4:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday with performances of the play at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

MAT Executive Director Jay Pyette said they have more vendors this year than last, with more food and a wider variety of goods, as well as more room and a ton of games for children.

"It's really going to be a good time," Pyette said.

He said the summer show has been expanding for the last four years with the first show, a production of "Cyrano de Bergerac," held in the Montana State University-Northern Student Union Building.

The next show, "Midsummer Night's Dream," was held in the bowl near Pershing Hall on campus, but the show moved to Beaver Creek Park last year with a production of "MacBeth," held at the Lions Campground which could barely contain all the attendees.

This year, they've moved to the Eagles Campground, which has afforded them much more room, especially for parking, Pyette said.

He said vendors will obviously be charging for their products but the play is, as always, free as is the faire itself.

He said "MacBeth" was incredibly successful, but they wanted to do a comedy this year and "Twelfth Night" has always been one of his favorites, with vibrant characters and lots of laughs.

Pyette said it's been a rainy June, but they've been keeping an eye on the weather tracking services, and Saturday and Sunday both look solid.

Friday, he said, will probably be fine, too, but if it ends up pouring they will cancel that day.

They had an incredible crowd last year and he hopes everyone can come out to enjoy the play this year as well, he said, and there will be plenty of food and refreshments available when they get there.

Next year, Pyette said, they will be doing "The Imaginary Invalid" by Moliere, one of Shakespeare's contemporaries.
