In the Eastern A this past spring, the Havre High softball team dominated. Along with going 21-6, the Blue Ponies won the Eastern A Divisional championship and finished fourth at the Class A State Tournament. Now for their efforts, several Ponies earned postseason honors.
Four Ponies were named All-State for their performances this past season. Elle Verploegen was named All-State and First Team All-Conference for her season at pitcher. On the mound, Verploegen recorded a 17-6 record, 136 strikeouts and a 3.534 ERA. She also made an impact at the plate with 18 RBIs and a .298 batting average.
In her final season with the Ponies, Avery Carlson also earned All-State and First Team All-Conference honors. She had a strong season at the plate with 36 RBIs, seven home runs and a .494 batting average.
Camille Keeley earned All-State and First Team All-Conference honors after she recorded 52 RBIs, eight home runs and a .438 batting average for the Ponies. Jersi Morse also made All-State and First Team All-Conference with 28 RBIs, two home runs and a .460 batting average.
Several other Ponies were honored for their contributions this past season. In her final season, Molly Huse earned Second Team All-Conference honors as she recorded 28 RBIs, five home runs and a .349 batting average. Fellow senior Lizzi Haney earned Second Team All-Conference honors after recording 24 RBIs and a .276 batting average this past season.
In her senior year, Danni Wirtzberger earned Second Team All-Conference honors as she recorded 16 RBIs and a .293 batting average. Fellow senior Hannah Gingery also earned Second Team All-Conference honors as she posted 19 RBIs, two home runs and a .313 batting average.
With so many seniors earning All-State and All-Conference honors, the Ponies will have a lot of production to replace next season. But with players such as Verploegen, Keeley and Morse returning, the HHS softball squad should remain a contender going forward.
