Local Golf Report: Golfing for a Cure Tournament gets going, summer league continues

This weekend is, of course, the start of the summer tournament season in Havre. And things kick off with one of my all-time favorites — The Golfing For a Cure Tournament at Prairie Farms Golf Course.

Fighting cancer has been something near and dear to my heart, like so many others. It has, like so many millions of people, hit close to home, and even now, it continues to. That’s why it is so important to continue to fight, and continue to act. So, as someone who has cancer currently affecting my family, and has in the past, and as someone who has been so honored to have participated in this tournament for many years, have a great weekend everyone and thank you so much to EVERYBODY who works so hard to put this great event on each year.

The tournament schedule at Beaver Creek Golf Course also gets underway this weekend with the annual Chester Swim Team scramble. Have a great time this weekend all of you who are playing at BCGC.

League golf meanwhile, marches on.

Last Tuesday night at Prairie Farms, Hole 19 scored 23.5 points to take high-team honors. The squad was made up of Jared Weigel, Ryan Callahan, Mark Larson and Cakes. Caleb Spangler was low gross for the second straight week, after shooting even-par, as did John Olszewski. Weigel was also low net with a 30.

Last Wednesday night saw Independence Bank score 22.5 points to earn high team. Matt Wertheimer, Dennis Murphy, Pete Stiffarm and Byron Ophus were the winning team. Olszewski and Kyle Sheppard also each shot 35 to share low gross, while C.J. Evanns was low net at 33.5.
