Over the weekend in Laurel, several track and field teams from the Hi-Line wrapped up their seasons. While Harlem competed in the Class B State Track and Field Meet, schools from the 9C such as Chinook, Fort Benton, Turner, Chester-Joplin-Inverness, Big Sandy, North Star and Box Elder competed in the Class A-C State Track and Field Meet. At the end of the weekend, several athletes won medals to bring back to the Hi-Line.
In the boys Class C meet, Chinook finished third with 42 total points. Manhattan Christian won the meet with 81 total points and Belt finished second. Over the course of the meet, several Sugarbeeters performed well to lead the team to their third-place finish.
Brenden Fetter had a strong weekend as he was named a state champion in several events. He took first in the 100-meter sprint with a time of 11.48 and he took first in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 22.86. He also took first in the long jump with a measurement of 21-10.
Fetter also took home a medal in the triple jump, where he took third with a measurement of 45-02.25. Chinook also did well in the 400 relay, where the team of Fetter, Carson Nissen, Tyler Schoen and Braxton Inman took third with a time of 44.45.
In the Class C boys meet, Box Elder took 16th with eight total points. Tracen Jilot capped off his high school career by taking second in the high jump with a measurement of 6-04.
In 19th place in the boys meet, North Star, Turner and Big Sandy all tied with six total points. In the 800-meter dash, Turner’s Ryan Doyle took third with a time of 1:59.70. In the shot put, North Star’s Gavin Clawson took third with a distance of 49-09.25. In the javelin, Big Sandy’s Cooper Taylor took third with a distance of 163-04.
In the boys meet, CJI and Fort Benton tied for 28th with four total points. In the 1,600 relay, the Fort Benton team of Nathan Dunham, Brock Grossman, Eli Arganbright and Landis Arganbright took fourth with a time of 3:33.77. CJI’s Braden Mattson took fifth in the long jump with a measurement of 20-06.75 and he took fifth in the javelin with a distance of 155-03.
In the Class C girls meet, Plentywood took first with 75.75 total points while Manhattan Christian took second and Savage took third. Of the teams from the District 9C, the North Star girls team had the best finish with four total points to take 24th. Rainee Watson capped off her season by taking fourth in the javelin with a distance of 122-08.
The Chinook girls team scored one total point to finish 32nd in the meet. Anna Terry ended the season by taking sixth in the 3,200-meter dash with a time of 12:04.46.
The Class B State Track and Field Meet also took place in Laurel this past weekend. In the girls meet, Harlem finished 18th with eight total points. In the high jump, Harlem’s Keonna Medicine Bear took second with a measurement of 5-00.
With these state track meets now over, the high school track and field season now comes to an end as well. With the state medals that these athletes earned over the weekend, their hard work throughout the season paid off and they did the Hi-Line proud.
