Hi-Line Athlete Profile: Brayden Kimberling, Havre track

Brayden Kimberling is ready to run at state

The Havre High track and field teams will wrap up the season with the Class A State Track and Field Meet in Laurel this weekend. The Blue Ponies will send 20 athletes to the meet, including junior Brayden Kimberling. As he heads into his final meet of the season, Kimberling looks forward to competing alongside his teammates.

"I'm looking forward to the relay," Kimberling said. "I'm looking forward to being able to compete against (runners from) Class B and C."

Kimberling runs in the sprints and the relay events for the HHS track and field team. As an individual, he qualified for the 100-meter sprint and the 200-meter sprint at the state meet. He recorded a best of 11.32 in the 100 and a best of 22.73 in the 200 this season.

Kimberling also qualified for the 400 relay at this weekend's state meet. Kimberling and his team consisting of Michael Emge, Caron Harris and Brisbin Reiter qualified with a time of 44.48 this season. While he enjoys running in the 400 relay, Kimberling's favorite event to compete in is the 200.

Kimberling and the Ponies will look to build off the success they had at the Eastern A Divisional meet last weekend. At the meet, the HHS girls team finished second and the HHS boys team finished fifth. While he has enjoyed much of his junior season, Kimberling enjoyed the success the Ponies had at divisionals.

"I enjoyed divisionals," Kimberling said. "Getting that second-place plaque for the girls and then myself just helping the team out with points."

Kimberling first got interested in track at a young age when he first watched it on television. He then joined the HHS track and field team his freshman year and has not looked back. His favorite high school track memory came his freshman year when he qualified for the state meet for the first time.

Kimberling still has plenty of time left to compete for the HHS track and field teams. Along with this weekend's state meet, Kimberling will return for his senior season. As he looks forward to the rest of his high school career, Kimberling hopes to win the 100 and the 200 at state.

Alongside track, Kimberling plays football for the Ponies. During the fall, Kimberling suits up at wide receiver and cornerback for the Ponies. While he enjoys football, track is his favorite of the two sports.

Kimberling and the HHS track and field teams will head to Laurel this weekend to compete in the Class A State Track and Field Meet. Before he wrapped up the season, the Havre Daily News got to ask Kimberling five questions.

HDN: What do you love about track?

Kimberling: "That it's not really a team sport but when it comes to the relay, you have to rely on your buddies."

HDN: What is the hardest part about track?

Kimberling: "The hardest part I would say is getting used to an event and sticking with it."

HDN: When you started watching track on television, which athletes did you enjoy watching?

Kimberling: "I was just sitting there watching Usain Bolt and Matthew Boling compete."

HDN: What is the most important thing you have learned during your track career?

Kimberling: "Do not take stretching for granted. The biggest thing you don't want to do is pull anything before big events."

HDN: Outside of sports, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Kimberling: "I like to go fishing and hanging out with my buddies."
