Obituary - Gary Goodwin Myskewitz

Gary Goodwin Myskewitz of Havre, 79, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family May 24, 2023, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Gary was born to Fred and Helen Myskewitz in Great Falls, Montana, in 1943, one of seven kids. He was raised on the west side of Great Falls, graduating from Great Falls High School, and then entered the Navy, where he served on the SS Swordfish classified sub 579 stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

He married June Ploog in November 1968 in Lemmon SD, moving to Ulm, MT, which became home until 1980, when they moved to Havre. After his military service, Gary was a technician for Whites Appliance in Great Falls before working as the Manager of Whites Appliance. The last 16 years he owned Quality Appliance where he serviced the Hi-Line until his retirement in 2008.

After retirement, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, where he was an avid walleye fisherman, winning many tournaments; camping, and spending time with his family.

Gary also enjoyed sitting on his deck bird watching. His yard was filled with bird houses. He talked often about the new baby birds every spring and deer that filled his yard which he enjoyed mowing. He would brag about his own private wildlife preserves so close to town and within the game warden's watchful eye.

Gary had a big garden where he grew a farmer's market full of vegetables.

Gary was an active member of the Elks Fraternity club where he was past board president and Vets Club member. Gary also enjoyed football, where Tom Brady was his favorite player. The day he passed was his favorite fishing holiday, Memorial Day weekend, where he enjoyed camping with his two beautiful daughters, Michelle and Melissa, catching that big walleye with his wonderful wife, June.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, June Ann (Ploog) Myskewitz; daughter Michelle A. Myskewitz of Havre, grandson Bridger R. Bibeau, daughter Melissa A Knapton (Brandon) of Kooskie, Idaho, granddaughters Maddie and Emma Knapton; sisters Eileen James of Helena Mt, Alice (John) Ewing of Colorado, Patricia Heiman of North Carolina; and brother Fred Jr. (Judy) Myskewitz of WI.

Preceding him in death were both parents, Fred and Helen Myskewitz; brothers George Myskewitz and Henry Myskewitz, and sister Virginia Myskewitz.

Gary will be greatly missed by many people.
