With summer approaching, Havre's Women's Trap League is looking to recruit new members.

Board member Emi Smith said the Havre club needs at least five participants in its women's league to move forward with their expected event dates.

Smith is organizing the event this year. The women's trap league meets on Monday evenings, and the open shooting practice occurs on Wednesdays and Sundays.

"We put the women's league on a different night because there are always a lot of people here during open shooting practice." Smith said.

"Sometimes if they're new shooters or young shooters and they've never been in this atmosphere, we put that on a different night ... so they can focus a little bit better," she added, "We encourage them to come Wednesdays or Sundays when we have open shooting to maybe practice a little bit."

The community can attend open shooting practice at 5 p.m. Wednesdays and 1 p.m. Sundays at the trap shooting location, located south of town near the Border Patrol Station.

Smith is one of six on the volunteer board of directors. She said she began shooting in 2009 and was one of 15 shooters in the Ladies I Division in 2021.

Her list of accomplishments at the state event include champion rankings in Open Ladies I Handicap Champion, Ladies I Doubles Champion, Ladies I State Doubles Champion, and many more titles.

The other cities in Montana that participate in trap league clubs include Great Falls, Helena, Libby, Logan, two in Kalispell and several others across the state.

All female youth and adults who are beginner, novice and advanced shooters are welcome to participate in the league. Club members will be available to assist and help if anyone is interested and ammunition is available at the trap club.

The Havre Trap League Club fee is $50, which provides eight rounds of trap.

The Montana State Women's Trap League fee is $15.

Two hundred consecutive targets will be submitted to the Montana State Women's League. All scores must be shot by July 10.

The event begins June 5 and runs through July 17, with shooting Mondays at 5:30 p.m.

No women's league shooting will be held the week of July 3.

July 17, an event will be held for makeup rounds, awards, and a potluck dinner. People are asked to bring their best potluck dish to share. Drinks are not provided.
