Havre girls take fifth at Polson Track Meet

It feels like it just started yesterday, but the regular season for the Havre High track and field teams has now come to an end. This past Saturday in Polson, the Blue Ponies competed in the Nelson Tomas ABC Meet before beginning the postseason.

Against competition from the west, the HHS girls team finished fifth and the HHS boys team finished sixth. HHS head coach Kari Filius was also impressed by the finishes of some of the individuals on her teams.

"Some of us did really well. We had some more qualifying state marks and times and some of us had to battle through a little bit of adversity," Filius said. "It was great competition. It was really nice to see all of those A schools in the west so I thought we did really well."

The HHS girls team scored 58 total points to finish fifth in its meet. Hamilton won the meet with 101 total points while Corvallis took second and Columbia Falls took third. In the final meet of the regular season, several athletes from the HHS girls team performed well.

In the 400-meter dash, Macy Brandon took first with a time of 1:01.06. In the long jump, Macee May took second with a measurement of 16-09. Hailey Gingery ran well in the 1,600-meter dash with a time of 5:42.65 to finish fourth. In the 300-meter hurdles, Amaya Jarvis took fourth with a time of 50.92.

Kaydance Reiter had a strong day as she took third in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 26.90 and she took fourth in the 100-meter sprint with a time of 13.17. Kyanna Jarvis took third in the high jump with a measurement of 4-10 and she took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.19.

The HHS girls team performed well in the relay events Saturday. In the 1,600 relay, the team of Brandon, Reiter, Amaya Jarvis and Kyanna Jarvis took second with a time of 4:11.19. In the 400 relay, the team of Brandon, Reiter, Kyanna Jarvis and Emily Leeds took fourth with a time of 51.32.

In the boys meet, the Ponies took sixth with 38 total points. Hamilton won the meet with 89 total points with Beaverhead County coming in a close second and Corvallis coming in third.

Caleb Tomac had a strong day as he took second in both the 800-meter dash and the 1,600-meter dash. He recorded a time of 2:00.48 in the 800 and he posted a time of 4:30.76 in the 1,600. Brody Henry also ran well as he took third in the 800 with a time of 2:00.49 and he took third in the 1,600 with a time of 4:32.28.

Jacob Herring performed well as he took third in the javelin with a distance of 149-09 and he took sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.17. Trayden Riley took fifth in the 400 with a time of 52.85 and Michael Emge finished sixth in the 200 with a time of 23.89.

With this weekend in the books, the regular season is now over for the Ponies. The Ponies will now begin the postseason where all their hard work throughout this season will hopefully pay off. After competing in a tough meet on the road to end the regular season, Filius believes the Ponies are set for the next two weeks.

"We're ready for divisionals. I think we're going to have a really good divisionals on both sides," Filius said. "I feel like we learned a little bit (this past meet) and we're ready to compete at divisionals and I think we will do really well there."

The HHS track and field teams will begin the Eastern A Divisional Meet in Sidney Friday.
