HHS Track to compete in Polson meet to end the regular season

The regular season will come to an end for the Havre High track and field teams as they compete in the Nelson-Thomas ABC Meet in Polson this Saturday. The Blue Ponies were originally scheduled to compete in the Twilight Meet in Glendive, but inclement weather forced the Ponies to find another meet. Thankfully for them, the Ponies were able to find a spot in the meet in Polson where they will face some tough competition from the west.

“It’s really going to be a nice competitive meeting. We’re excited to do it,” HHS head coach Kari Filius.

At the meet, the Ponies will face schools from the west such as Hamilton, Stevensville, Corvallis, Columbia Falls and Whitefish. The Ponies will also face Beaverhead County, Browning, Frenchtown, Polson and Ronan at the meet.

In their last meet of the regular season, the Ponies will be looking to put their best foot forward. There will be some strong competition in the sprints this weekend, but Filius expects the Ponies to do well in those events as they have done all season.

Brayden Kimberling should do well in the sprints as he has a best of 11.32 in the 100-meter sprint this season. In the distance, Caleb Tomac will look to improve his times as he has a best of 2:02.05 in the 800-meter dash, a best of 4:33.12 in the 1,600-meter dash and a best of 9:48.22 in the 3,200-meter dash.

The Ponies will look to do well in the boys hurdles. Ciaran Courtnage has a best of 18.06 in the 110-meter hurdles while his teammate Jacob Herring has a best of 18.39 in the 110-meter hurdles and a best of 43.50 in the 300-meter hurdles. In the triple jump, Kale Van Campen will look to do well as he has a best of 41-06.5 in that event this season.

In the sprints, Kaydance Reiter will look to continue her strong season as she has a best of 12.71 in the 100 and a best of 26.53 in the 200. Macy Brandon will also look to do well with a best of 27.44 in the 200 and a best of 1:01.19 in the 400. Ela Harbor should be competitive in the 100 as she has a best of 13.13 this season.

Hailey Gingery will look to run well in the distance runs this weekend as she has a best of 2:28.98 in the 800. In the 100-meter hurdles, the Ponies should be competitive as Kyanna Jarvis has a best of 16.37 and Ari Gary has a best of 17.32 in that event this spring. In the 300-meter hurdles, Amaya Jarvis will look to improve on her season-best time of 48.44.

The Ponies will also look to do well in the field events. Clara Laird should do well as she has a best of 96-07 in the discus and a best of 117-01 in the javelin. In the high jump, Kyanna Jarvis and Gary will both compete as Jarvis has a best of 5-02 and Gary has a best of 5-00. Macee May will look for strong performances in the field as she has a best of 33-09.5 in the triple jump and she has a best of 16-04 in the long jump.

This will be the last chance for the Ponies to compete before starting the postseason with the Eastern A Divisional meet in Sidney next weekend. With one last warmup before the most important meets of the year, Filius hopes to see the Ponies continue to put their best foot forward.

“(I want them to) just to compete and relax,” Filius said. “The competition is going to be pretty good there so it’ll be nice to see that and just feel that before we get to divisionals and state.”
