And they’re off!
Golf leagues are finally underway in Havre, as both the men’s league at Beaver Creek Golf Course and the Women’s League at Prairie Farms got started last Thursday.
At Prairie Farms, the home team took first on the opening night. PF was composed of Sarah Spangler, Kelsey Sage, Chandra Moomey and Abby Nicholas.
Low gross went to Sarah Spangler with a stellar 40, while low net was Delonna Malone, Shari Baltrusch and Krista Cole.
Last Thursday night at BCGC was also the season-opener for men’s league, while Prairie Farm’s Men’s League starts tonight and Wednesday.
With not much else to report, I thought I’d share a pretty interesting course I played here in Denver last week.
CommonGround Golf Course was built by one of the top architects in the game in Tom Doak. It gets it’s name for a couple of reasons.
It sits literally on the a dividing line between Denver Proper and the city of Aurora, with parts of the courts winding through both cities. Doak also essentially built the course for next to nothing, so that it would belong to the city and always be a public use course.
And it’s a fantastic track with incredible views of the North Range and Downtown Denver together. Of course, lots of golf courses have those impeccable views here in Denver, but the fact that this track was built by Doak, and the fact that, since 2012 it has hosted the U.S. Amatuer in 2012, and the U.S. Mid Am in 2019, while also being a continuous U.S. Open Men’s and Women’s local qualifer, as well as so many other USGA and CGA championships, makes this course really special.
I mean, I’ve now played two courses that the likes of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and others have battled on.
So, my first go-round at CommonGround was a great one, and I hope to return many more times this summer.
