Local Golf Report: MSU-N golf competes at conference tournament

They only get one tournament in the spring, but it’s a big one. Last week, the Montana State University-Northern golf teams, headed by Jim Kirkpatrick, competed at the Frontier Conference Championships in Las Vegas.

The tournament was held at prestigious Reflection Bay, where the Lights placed fifth overall in the men’s tournament. Gerit Johnson finished in 20th place for Northern with rounds of 89, 98 and 93. Kyler Cassell was 21st with rounds of 80, 98, and 101, while former Havre Blue Pony Theron Peterson was 22nd with rounds of 86, 98 and 105. T.J. Reynolds finished in 24th place shooting 103, 92 and 96, while Micaiah Hauser placed 24th as well with 98, 961 and 102.

Also competing in the men’s field was former Blue Pony Caleb Spangler, who finished in 13th place playing for Carroll College. Spangler fired rounds of 94, 85 and 87.

The MSU-N women placed sixth in the tournament. The Skylights were led by Shayann Danelson, who shot 110, 113, 111, while Maddison Underdal was 23rd with scores of 126, 103 and 120. Molly Hamilton placed 23rd with scores of 121, 120 and 119, while Savannah Toms placed 25th with rounds of 106, 134 and 126.

Rocky Mountain College swept the team titles.

Though the weather continues hampering golf up north, leagues will get rolling pretty soon. Prairie Farms Women’s League starts May 4. Reminders to all league secretaries, send your results to [email protected] each Sunday.

Here’s hoping the golf league seasons get going soon, and with some good weather.
