Several Blue Ponies play well at Hardin Invitational

The Havre High tennis teams are a mere one month away from the postseason. So there was no doubt last weekend’s Hardin Invitational was a big one.

The Blue Ponies got six duals over two days in Hardin, and while both Pony teams were missing players due to the music festival, they still found plenty of success.

The Havre girls went 3-3 on the weekend, with wins over Glendive, Billings Central and Livingston. The Ponies fell to Hardin twice and dropped a close loss to arch rival Lewistown.

Havre got a great meet from top singles player Rayna Johnson, who scored some huge wins, as did Chloe Bricker and Lindsey Leinwand. The top doubles tandem of Courtney Burchard and Cat Kaftan continued their strong play this season, while Mylee Shennum and Emerald Tinsley won key matches as well.

The Pony boys meanwhile, beat Lewistown and Glendive, as well as Livingston, but struggled against Hardin twice, while also losing a nail biter to Billings Central.

Carter Spangler performed well at No. 1 singles for Havre, while sophomore Daniel Tilleman played well at the No. 4 spot. The young doubles tandems of Max Spangler and Jackson Headdress and Carter Chagnon and Mason Kinsella won key matches for the Ponies as well.

And with the divisional tournament on the horizon, Havre will look to keep improving as the Ponies travel to Great Falls for three duals Tuesday. Havre will meet GFCC, GFH and CMR Tuesday afternoon.
