MSU-Northern rodeo begins sprint portion of season in Bozeman

This past weekend, the Montana State University-Northern rodeo teams began the spring portion of their season with a pair of rodeos in Bozeman hosted by Montana State University. In the first rodeo, both the MSU-N men’s and women’s teams finished third in their rodeos. In the second rodeo, the MSU-N women’s team finished second while the MSU-N men’s team took third.

In the first rodeo, the MSU-N men’s team took third with 480 total points. MSU took first with 615 total points in that rodeo while Montana Western finished second with 550 total points.

Many Lights had strong performances in the first rodeo. Garrett Cunningham finished first in saddle bronc riding with a score of 132. Dallen Hover finished fourth in that event with a score of 47.

In tie down roping, Court Nugent finished seventh with a score of 10.1. Chance Story finished fourth in steer wrestling with a score of 21.3. Tobin Cummins and Hance Three Irons finished fourth in team roping with a score of 12.4.

In the first women’s rodeo, the Skylights finished third with a score of 185 total points. MSU took first with 640 total points in that rodeo while the University of Montana finished second with 195 total points.

Several Skylights placed in the first rodeo. In barrel racing, Jill Marcenko took sixth with a score of 35.14 and Brittney Bo Cox took seventh with a score of 30.52. In goat tying, Mikenna Schauer finished fourth with a score of 16.8 and Kenda Statham took fifth with a score of 17.3.

In the second rodeo over the weekend, the Skylights finished second with 185 total points. MSU took first with 595 total points while Montana Western finished third with 120 total points.

Statham finished fifth in women’s all-around as she scored 75 total points. She took sixth in breakaway roping with a score of 15.9 and she took sixth in goat tying with a score of 7.3. In breakaway roping, Allee Bartlett took third with a score of 6.5. In barrel racing, Cox took third with a score of 30.08.

In the second rodeo, the Lights took third with 345 total points. Montana Western took first with 735 total points and MSU finished second with 610 total points.

In bareback riding, Ethan Frasier took first with a score of 143. In saddle bronc riding, Cunningham finished second with a score of 124. In that same event, Miles Graveley finished fourth with a score of 46. Cameron Falcon took second in bull riding and Story took seventh in steer wrestling with a score of 5.3

The MSU-N rodeo teams will continue their season with a rodeo hosted by Miles Community College in MIles City starting this Thursday.
