The body of Donald Haseagle, who was reported missing April 11, was found on the bank of the Milk River Sunday outside of Dodson.
Phillips County Sheriff Jerry Lytle said it appears that Haseagle swam across the river before he died, but the Blaine County Sheriff’s office is taking the lead on the investigation and will conduct the autopsy.
Blaine County Sheriff John Colby was not able to respond to requests for comment from the Havre Daily News by print deadline this morning.
The search for Haseagle was started on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation after he was reported missing April 11, a press release from the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office said, but on April 15 Haseagle’s vehicle was located stuck in the mud on Savoy Road about five miles west of Dodson and the search was relocated to that area of Phillips County.
The release said that friends, family and volunteers from the Fort Belknap community along with personnel from the Blaine County, Phillips County and Cascade County sheriff’s offices, along with Fort Belknap Tribal Police officers, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks game wardens and U.S. Border Patrol agents all helped in the search for Haseagle.
Sunday just after 5 p.m. Haseagle’s body was found along the south bank of the Milk River, south of where his vehicle had been found.
