Cal Wearley track meet returns to Havre

Normally, the Cal Wearley Invitational Track Meet is one of the season's big openers. But this track and field season has been anything but normal.

Now however, the Cal Wearley, hosted by the North Star Knights, will return to the Havre Middle School Track, albeit a few weeks late.

Still, the meet is one of the biggest small-school regular season track meets in Montana, and certainly the biggest on the Hi-Line. This year's meet will be no different, as it features all of the District 9C, Class B stalwarts like Malta, Harlem, Rocky Boy and others, as well as the Havre High track teams. With even more top Class B and C schools from across north and central Montana, the Cal Wearley will be as competitive as ever,

And it will also be the first true preview of all the 9C teams, as well.

The 9C will be a very tough district again this spring, with girls teams from Chinook, Fort Benton, North Star and Big Sandy all looking strong. Meanwhile, on the boys side, Big Sandy, Fort Benton, North Star and Chester-Joplin-Inverness should be among the top contenders for a 9C title this spring.

Of course, the Cal Wearley isn't just a 9C meet, instead, it's a meet who will test every athlete that enters. Again, it's one of the very best regular season small-school meets in all of Montana, and with all of the talent that will gather in Havre Saturday, it will certainly be a great meet once again.

The Cal Wearley Invitational gets underway at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Havre Middle School Track.
