After a solid career with the Havre Northstars American Legion baseball club, Brody Nanini plans to continue his baseball journey at Yakima Valley Community College. After visiting the campus and its facilities in Yakima, Washington, Nanini believed the program was right for him.
"The big selling point for him was the opportunity at playing time in a really competitive league," said Jake Eldridge, Nanini's head coach on the Havre High football team and assistant coach on the Northstars. "He's really excited about that and he got along really well with the coaches."
The Yaks competed in the Northwest Athletic Conference, which is made up of community colleges across Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia. Last season, the Yaks went 31-18 and so far this season, they are off to a 10-20 start.
Nanini will look to make an impact once he joins the program next season. Last summer, Nanini had another strong season for the Northstars. At the plate, he recorded two home runs, 70 RBIs, 59 runs and a .415 batting average. He also excelled on the mound pitching for the Northstars with an 8-6 record, a 2.645 ERA and 59 strikeouts.
"He's somebody that's very versatile. He's played a lot of different positions and is someone that's going to be very competitive and consistent with what they do," Eldridge said about what Nanini can bring to the Yaks' program. "Those are things that he's always done really well with his whole career."
Before heading off to Yakima to begin his collegiate career, Nanini will play one more season with the Havre Northstars this summer. The Northstars will begin their season on April 22 when they head the road for a doubleheader against the Kalispell Lakers AA team.
