Upcoming MSU Extension events in Hill County

Water quality, applicator training on the way

There will be two educational events put on by MSU Extension-Hill County the week of April 10.

April 11 at 5 p.m. in the 4-H Chuckwagon will be a workshop covering water quality. During this workshop participants will learn about water quality and how to test your livestock water with MSU Water Quality Specialist Adam Sigler.

Participants are encouraged to bring a sample of their livestock water in or the water they use in their chemical applications of crops.

Also speaking that night is MSU Extension Forage Specialist Hayes Goosey. Goosey will be presenting on testing your forages and why having forage tests completed is important. MSU Extension Beef Specialist, Sam Wyffels will present on the benefits and challenges of covercrops and livestock.

April 14 there will be an initial private applicator training. This is for applicators looking to obtain their private applicator license. Topics covered will be the Private Applicator License, Pesticide Laws, Reading the Product Label, Calibration of Pesticide Spray Equipment, Integrated Pest Management, Pesticides in the Environment, and Pesticide Safety.

The workshop starts at 8 a.m. There will be a nongraded exam at the end of the day.

Cost to attend the initial private applicator training is $15 dollars plus the $36-dollar licensing fee if you are going to get your license. There will be six recertification credits available to applicators who need credits. This will be held in the 4-H Chuckwagon at the Great Northern Fairgrounds in Havre. Lunch will be provided.
