As temperatures get warmer, local sports fans are probably hoping to get out and enjoy some spring sports. However, the lingering effects of a frigid winter have prevented the Havre High softball team and the Havre High track and field teams from beginning their seasons this spring.
The HHS softball team has had its spring season delayed on multiple occasions already. Late last month, the Blue Ponies were hoping to get some play in with the Billings Central Jamboree. However, they were unable to participate.
Then this past weekend, the Ponies were supposed to begin their conference schedule with a doubleheader at home against Miles City. But again the cold weather prevented the Ponies from getting their season started.
Meanwhile, the HHS track and field teams were set to start the season this past weekend with the Glasgow Invitational. However, that meet was canceled and the Ponies will have to wait another week before competing.
The HHS tennis teams have also had to deal with the weather, but they have been fortunate enough to begin their season. Late last month, the Ponies were able to play indoors at the Cut Bank Invitational. The Ponies then played outdoors in the Conrad Meet this past weekend, but inclement weather again interfered and cut that meet short.
Both the HHS softball and track teams are itching to get out and finally compete this spring. The HHS softball team will look to defend its Northeast A Divisional title as it returns many players from that team. Meanwhile, the HHS track and field teams will look to develop in its second year under head coach Kari Filius. Hopefully from here on out, weather will not be an issue and these squads can finally compete.
The HHS softball team is scheduled to play in the Fergus Tournament in Lewistown this weekend. The HHS track and field teams are scheduled to start the year with the Fergus Meet in Lewistown Thursday.
