Obituary - Richard Gregory Hentschel

Richard Gregory Hentschel, 54, died Saturday, March 18, 2023, in Havre, Montana.

His memorial service will be held at 2:22 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2023, at the First Lutheran Church with Pastor Megan Hoewisch officiating. At his request, cremation has taken place and there will not be a burial at this time.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp in honor of Ricky sent to First Lutheran Church at 303 Sixth Ave., Havre, MT 59501.

Richard or Ricky, as many called him, was born December 17, 1968, in Havre, Montana to Raymond and Gayle (Pierson) Hentschel. He was raised and educated in Havre, graduating as a Blue Pony from Havre High School with the class of 1987. He went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad as an Engineer in 1992 and remained employed there for 30 years.

Ricky loved boating, campfires, camping and ice fishing at the family cabin on Fresno Lake, and his passion of working on his several Mustangs. The Fourth of July events were legendary, and he always said, "The more the merrier." For the past several years, his immediate family threw the annual Oktoberfest, paying homage to the family's German heritage. Ricky was the assistant Local Chairman of SMART TD, board member of The Havre Railroad Pagers as well as the Elks. Ricky also enjoyed being on the men's bowling team E1 Towing Havre Wreckers.

May 23, 1999, he married Jacquelyn Anderson, and their union solidified the family of four with their son Tanner and Ricky's son Kevin. The couple made their home in Havre where they raised their two children.

Preceded in death by his parents, mother, Gayle Hentschel; father, Raymond A. Hentschel; grandparents, Ruth and Alfred Hentschel and Marie and Mel Pierson.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jacquelyn Hentschel of Havre; his two sons, Tanner (Madison) Hentschel of Havre and Kevin (Bri) Hentschel of Spokane, WA; two grandchildren, Ella Mae Hentschel of Havre and August Reign Hentschel of Spokane, WA;  Aunt Sylvia (Gary) Funk of Florence, MT; his brother, Raymond P. (Lisa) Hentschel; sister, Tami (Rick) Carlson; and brother Garrett Hentschel all of Havre, Montana; in-laws, Jack and Barbara Anderson of Stevensville, MT; sister-in-law, Carmen Anderson of Peoria, IL; nieces and nephews: Kaitlyn (Britt) Cacopardo of Carl Junction, MO, Cole Hentschel of Spokane, WA, Shania (JT) Hawkins of McKinney, TX, Tucker (Taylor Marinkovich) Carlson of Kent, WA, Jordan (Alyssa) Ferguson of Baker City, OR, Andrea (Kevin) Whalen of Peoria, IL, Mollie Ferguson of Fort Worth, TX; several great grandnieces and grandnephews, along with numerous cousins, extended family and many friends.
