Frigid weather impacts beginning of spring sports season

Spring is on the horizon, but you would not be able to tell living on the Hi-Line. Thanks to snowy days in recent weeks, much of Havre is still under snow and will be that way for the next few weeks. While some may want a delay to the warmer weather, that does not bode well for spring sports that plan on beginning preparation for their upcoming seasons.

All the spring sports were scheduled to begin their practices this week. But with plenty of snow still on the ground, the Havre High softball and tennis teams will not be able to hold their practices outdoors this week. The Havre High track and field teams will also have to deal with the snow and temperatures below 40 degrees.

Thankfully for the Blue Ponies, they will have several weeks before they begin their seasons. The HHS softball team will begin the season with a game on the road against Miles City on April 2. Even better, the Ponies will not have to play on the Hi-Line until they host Lewistown on April 5.

The HHS tennis teams will begin the season with the Cut Bank Invite on March 26. The Ponies will not compete at home until the Havre Quad on April 8. The HHS track and field teams will not begin the season until April 1 when they compete in the Glasgow Invite. The Ponies will not compete at home until they host the Cal Wearly Invite and the Havre Lions Invite on April 6 and 9.

While this severe weather is sure to put a wrench in preparations for their upcoming seasons, the HHS spring sports teams are used to making quick changes in order to play up on the Hi-Line.
