Lions Club presents Toth with Melvin Jones Fellowship Award

Press release

For Lionistic year 2022-2023 the Havre Lions Club presented Lion Becky Toth the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.

Melvin Jones was the founder of Lions Clubs International. "What if these men," Melvin Jones asked, "who are successful because of their drive, intelligence and ambition, were to put their talents to work improving their communities?" Thus, at his invitation, delegates from men's clubs met in Chicago to lay the groundwork for such an organization and June 7, 1917, Lions Clubs International was born.

As recognition of outstanding work, a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award may be presented to individuals who have contributed time, energy and service that furthers the Lions' Motto, "We Serve". This award is the highest order of recognition that a club member can earn.

Becky Toth has been a Lion for 10 years. She is daughter of Lion Ray and Mardele Toth, a Havre High School graduate and has been working at Montana State University-Norhtern as director of food service and catering for 10 years. She will be moving on to be executive chef of catering and events at Eastern Washington University this week.

She served Lions in formal offices including president, zone chairman, and various other Lion offices. As a Lion she has served on numerous club committees as chairman, co-chairman or as a participating member. Included are Lions Convention (District 37), Lions Campground and Parks, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, MSUN Student Involvement Day and the Havre Lions Club's Hi-Line Youth Vision Screening program. Probably her most know work was spearheading the Pronto Pup Drive Through Sale at the fairgrounds during COVID-19.

The Havre Lions Club is one of 46,000 Lion clubs in the U.S. and other countries around the world. The goal of all Lions is to carry Melvin Jones's legacy in the years ahead to improve the lives of people around the world.
