From Dale Herd,
VFW Post 497
Josh Bebee was awarded Firefighter of the Year by Havre's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 497.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars recognizes the importance of those individuals who perform the selfless duties of public servants for our communities. Each year we select the one individual who sets themselves apart in each of the categories to be recognized. The criteria for these selections is difficult and demanding. These individuals must be recognized by their colleagues or those they serve. They must demonstrate excellence in the performance of their duties and have a consistent dedication to their official responsibilities over a period of years. These individuals must also show a continuous growth in responsibilities and skills within their profession.
The Bear Paw Volunteer Fire Department led the way last fall in fighting the Eagle Creek forest fire. The department spent a week out on the line fighting the fire and its fire chief, Bebee, was right there leading the way. Bebee coordinated with county, state and federal assets to ensure the fire was properly contained and the handover was completed to standard. Bebee and the Bear Paw Volunteer Fire Department did an outstanding job, as they always do whenever the need arises.
Bebee has been the Fire Chief for 10 years, his leadership and guidance have allowed the department to grow. Not only do they have a new firehall but they also have made huge advancements in training and equipment. Bebee and the department continue to develop and implement better ways to keep the Hi-Line safe from wildland fires.
It is with great pride that we present the VFW Post 497 Firefighter of the Year award to Josh Bebee.
