After a third-place finish at the District 1B Boys Basketball Tournament a few weeks back, the Rocky Boy boys basketball team will continue the postseason with the Northern B Divisional Boys Basketball Tournament in Shelby this week.
The Morning Stars will start the tournament with a game against Malta Thursday at 2:30 p.m. The Malta Mustangs enter the tournament with a 14-6 record and are coming off a second-place finish at the District 2B Tournament. The Mustangs will be led by the likes of Treyton Wilke and Bohdi Brenden, who both averaged double digits in scoring at districts.
Rocky Boy enters divisionals with a 14-7 record. The Stars have many players that can score for them ranging from Teague Stump to Joe Standing Rock to Domitri Standing Rock, so they have a chance to make a run this week.
If the Stars can defeat Malta, they would then play either Fairfield or Glasgow, who play each other on Thursday at 1 p.m. The Fairfield Eagles should be one of the favorites in the tournament with a 17-2 record and a District 1B championship. With players such as Tyson Schenk and Cole Neal on their team, the Eagles should be a formidable opponent.
Glasgow has a 9-12 record and finished fourth at the District 2B Tournament. If the Scotties want to upset Fairfield this week, they will need players such as Wyatt Babb and Cade Hudyma to get rolling.
On Thursday at 6:30 p.m., Cut Bank and Poplar will face each other. Cut Bank enters the tournament with a 13-7 record and is coming off a second-place finish at the District 1B Tournament. The Wolves are led by players such as Tate Monroe and Jaydas Runningwolf who look to keep playing well this weekend.
Poplar has a record of 12-8 this season and finished third at the District 2B Tournament. The Indians have many players who can lead them to success this weekend, especially Geordy Medicine Cloud and Delray Lilley.
Shelby and Wolf Point will wrap up Thursday with a game at 8:30 p.m. Shelby has a 10-11 record this year and finished fourth at the District 1B Tournament. The likes of Kyle McDermott and Trenton Emerson will look to lead the Coyotes on a deep run this week.
Wolf Point should be one of the favorites in the tournament with an 18-2 record and a District 2B championship. With players such as Julian Benson, Kraven Silk and Gaige Bushman leading the way, the Wolves should be hard to stop.
The Northern B Divisional semifinal games will be Friday at 6:30 and 8 p.m. The tournament will wrap up Saturday with the consolation game at 6:30 p.m. and the championship will follow at 8 p.m.
