Stortz presented VFW Teacher of the Year Award

From Dale Herd,

VFW Post 497

One of the primary goals of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is to promote civic responsibility and patriotism, and to support youth and local programs across America.

We understand that the youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow and that is why the VFW remain dedicated to establishing programs designed for young people and educators. Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars selects elementary, middle and high school teachers to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Program. This program is designed for teachers who promote civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism in the classroom.

This year's recipient of Teacher of the Year is Lynette Stortz. She has been a teacher for over 20 years and has been teaching the students of the Hi-Line at Highland Park Early Primary School since 2007. Stortz was raised by veterans and is an active supporter of veterans and patriotic functions both inside and outside of the classroom.
