Students back at HMS after bomb threat

Students are back at Havre Middle School after a bomb threat forced an evacuation Thursday, and the incident is still being investigated by Havre Police.

A release from the school yesterday said students and staff were all safe and were bused to Fifth Avenue Christian Church to be reunited with their parents or guardians after the threat was found.

Havre Chief of Police Gabe Matosich said this morning that no device was found and students are back in school today.

The release said, a note found in a middle school bathroom at about 11 a.m. Thursday, indicated the threat, and school officials immediately got in touch with law enforcement to assist.

Matosich said the school did a great job Thursday, quickly getting students to safety and handling the threat properly.

“They did an outstanding job,” he said.

Havre Middle School Principal Curt Leeds likewise thanked the Department for its help Thursday, as well as for their ongoing efforts to investigate the incident.

Matosich said the department is still investigating the incident and there are still a lot of people to interview, but he’s hoping they’ll make some headway today.
