Blue Ponies finish solid fourth at state swimming

It was a great two days in the pool for the Havre High swim teams as the Blue Ponies wrapped up their season with the Montana State Swimming Championships.

Friday and Saturday, the Havre High boys and girls each finished fourth in the Class A-B meet, with the Pony boys scoring 30 points and the HHS girls scoring 32. Billings Central swept the Class A-B team titles for the third straight season.

Still, Havre had some great individual performances, and a lot of medals.

In the 200 Individual Medley, Elizabeth Carroll took second at 2:38.88 and Mackenzie Dean finished fourth with a time of 3:00.29 for the girls and Blake Taylor took fifth for the boys with a time of 2:32.28. Kyla Burchard had a big swim in the 100 butterfly finals, where she placed second with a time of 1:15.23, while Conner McCay won bronze in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.19.

In the 50 free, the boys got a fourth-place finish from Mason Sandstrom, who swam it in 24:38, while Micah Cammon took fifth in 26.22. Sandstrom added a fourth in the 100 free at 54.29, while McKay was fifth at 55:09. In the grueling 500 free, Liliana Smith placed fourth for the Pony girls, while Koby Preputin was fifth for the boys.

In the girls 100 backstroke, Elizabeth Carroll placed fourth for Havre with a time of 1:09.45, while Ainsley Courtnage placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:21.54 and Blake was fourth and Cammon fifth in the boys 100 breast.

Havre also performed well in the relays.

The Ponies took second in the 200 medley with a time of 2:13.40, while Havre boys were fourth at 1:57.52. In the 200 free relay, Havre got a fourth in the boys race and a fifth from the girls, while the Pony girls took second and the boys third in the 400 free relay.
