This past weekend, the Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team got back in action with a pair of games on the road against the Missoula Bruins. However, the Ice Hawks did not play their best as they suffered a 5-3 loss in both their games against the Bruins.
The Ice Hawks started the weekend with a game against Missoula Friday. The Ice Hawks started strong with Michael Emge scoring on a power play to take a 1-0 lead early in the first period. But Missoula responded with a goal from Ethan Elam to tie the game. Later in the period, Ian Lee scored a goal to give Missoula a 2-1 lead.
Early in the second period, Rhett Wertheimer scored a goal on a power play to tie the game 2-2. But minutes later, Ivan Shadow scored a goal to give Missoula 3-2 lead.
The Ice Hawks started the third period with a goal from Michael Emge to tie the game. But over the rest of the third, Alden Hellem and Chase Salter scored goals to help Missoula pull away.
Stephen Preputin finished the game with two points for the Ice Hawks, both coming on assists. Starting goalie Clara Holland recorded a save percentage of .821 on 28 shots on goal.
The Ice Hawks played again on Saturday, but again suffered a 5-3 loss to the Bruins. The Ice Hawks got off to a hot start as Preputin scored a goal late in the first period to give Havre the lead. A minute later, Callen Stoner scored a goal to give Havre a 2-0 lead. But moments later, Hunter Naugle scored a goal for Missoula to cut Havre’s lead to 2-1.
Early in the second period, Wertheimer scored a goal to push Havre’s lead to 3-1. But the Bruins battled back. Late in the second, Elam scored a goal for Missoula. Moments later, Daniel Upton scored a goal to tie the game, 3-3, heading into the final period.
Halfway through the third period, Samuel Swain scored a goal to give Missoula a 4-3 lead. A few minutes later, Upton scored a goal to push Missoula’s lead to 5-3. After a hot start, the Ice Hawks were unable to get anything going in the third period as Missoula went on to win.
Starting goalie Rogan Sayers recorded a save percentage of .722 on 18 shots on goal. With the losses over the weekend, the Ice Hawks dropped to 5-13 this season. The Havre Ice Hawks will take a break before wrapping up the regular season with games against the Missoula Bruins at the Havre Ice Dome on March 4 and 5.
