Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees is interviewing two candidates for the position of superintendent of the school district.
The board is in a search of a replacement for Superintendent Craig Mueller, who died unexpectedly at age 50 Oct. 22.
The board will interview the two candidates, Brian Gunn and David Perkins, after convening the special meeting of the board in Havre Middle School at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
That will come after the two have a full day meeting groups in Havre.
They will run through a schedule of meetings, each meeting separately with school groups including the Havre Education Association Union, classified staff, staff from the Robins School Administration Building and administration staff members.
The two will then have a meet and greet with school district staff from 4-5 p.m. in the Havre Middle School library and then a meet and greet with the community from 5-6 p.m. in the library.
The agenda for the school board includes a possible executive session to discuss results of reference checks and then the board deliberation on candidates and possible action on offering employment to a candidate.
Mueller’s death last fall put the district into fast action to find a replacement.
He had come to Havre to take the position of Havre High School principal in July 2011. He took the position of Havre Public Schools’ assistant superintendent in June of 2015 and took the position of interim superintendent after Andy Carlson stepped down from the superintendent position in July of 2020.
Mueller initially declined the position of permanent superintendent, but reconsidered after being asked to by a number of people. He was appointed superintendent in March 2021.
Brad Moore, who took the position of assistant superintendent for Havre Public Schools in July 2021, was appointed interim superintendent by the Havre School Board in November, leading the district as the superintendent search was conducted.
