Hi-Line Girls BB: Pioneers win twice, Beeters stay undefeated

Just two weeks remain in the 2023 girls basketball season on the Hi-Line, and that means, every game sure does count.

A big week last week started all the way back Monday when the Fort Benton girls demolished Conrad 56-35, while Thursday night, the North Star Knights took down the Conrad Cowgirls 60-22.

North Star continued its strong play Friday night with a 44-36 win over Box Elder. The Knights trailed by four points at halftime, but used a 25-16 scoring advantage in the second half. Laynie Sattoriva led North Star with 18 points and Rainee Watson scored 10. Melyah Oats led the Bears with 14 points.

Fort Benton moved forward, as well, as the Longhorns beat Hays-Lodge Pole 49-32. Emmerson Giese shot the lights out, draining 28 points. Hailee Wang chipped in with nine points. Alliya Pretty Paint netted 10 points for the Thunderbirds.

Turner was a winner Friday night as well. The Tornadoes beat rival Dodson 50-41. Dakota Krass tallied 13 points, Cassidy Grabofsky netted 12 and Meridian Snider 10 for the Tornadoes. Bridget Reed contributed seven points. Kataya KillEagle had a big game for Dodson, dropping 24 points to lead all scorers.

Also, in a big 9C game Friday night, Chinook rolled past Chester-Joplin-Inverness, 64-33. The Sugarbeeters remained unbeaten on the season powering past the Hawks. Hallie Neibauer led the way with 19 points. Bree Swanson hit for 16 points and Hannah Schoen added nine. Aaliyah Standiford and Jayla Ramberg led the Hawks with eight points each.

Saturday night, Box Elder rolled past Turner 68-49. The Bears scored 20 points in the first quarter as they earned a win at home. Melyah Oats led the Bears with 23 points to improve to 6-5, 8-6. Dakota Krass and Cassidy Grabofsky each scored 12 points apiece for the Tornadoes (1-9, 3-11).

Big Sandy also got a big conference win Saturday night as the Pioneers beat Fort Benton 53-48. The Pioneers earned their sixth conference win (9-5 overall) against a gritty Fort Benton team. Eva Yeadon dropped 26 points for the Pioneers, with Jaihaven Baumann adding 12 and Keira Gabavy eight. Casha Corder tallied 18 points for the Longhorns. Emmerson Giese chipped in with eight points.

Chinook kept on rolling, too. The Beeters crushed HLP 64-32. Hallie Neibauer scored 25 points, Alexus Seymour dropped 19 and Bree Swanson chipped in with eight points for the Sugarbeeters, who remained perfect on the season at 11-0 and 14-0.

CJI also earned a non-conference win over Sunburst, 64-56 Saturday night. Brynn Kammerzell tallied 14 points, Brie Mattson 12 and MaRae Small 10. Claire Bucklin shot the lights out for Sunburst, netting 26 points. Nikki Nau drained 12 points for the Refiners.
