4th Annual Milk River Gobblers Banquet set for Feb. 4

The 4th Annual Milk River Gobblers Banquet is set for Saturday, Feb. 4, at 5 p.m. at the Havre Eagles Club, an event that will include live and silent auctions, games and prizes.

Milk River Gobblers, a local organization that promotes healthy turkey and various game bird populations for hunting, as well as various other species, puts on the event every year to help fund their organization, including scholarships for young hunters in the area.

Gobblers Public Relations Officer Jeff Dibblee said that, ever since they split away from the National Turkey Federation due to the lack of capital support from the organization, they've put on the dinner, and it's gotten better each time.

Dibblee said they've seen increased interest in the organization and its programs as well as more support from businesses year after year, and he's hoping that trend continues.

At this year's banquet, he said, the Gobblers will be cooking prime rib and the Eagles will be providing the shrimp and fixings similar to last year.

He said they've put together an impressive array of games, including a lot of new card games, as well as a big array of prizes including at least 14 firearms, a big flat-screen TV, and a bevy of gift cards, some with a value of up to $250.

"It's a lot of fun," he said.

Dibblee said the organization is always looking for new members and he invited anyone interested in their activities and programs to come.

He said the success of the banquet will also determine how much money they can give in scholarships for local high school seniors from Saco to Chester to Big Sandy, having given out two $250 scholarships and two $500 ones last year.

He said the organization as a whole has been getting bigger and better with time with increasingly successful yearly gun raffles and youth fun days.

He said they're working on setting up a youth mentorship program, as well, but they're still working the bugs out.

Dibblee said tickets for the banquet are available at the door and people can call 406-390-1542 for more information.

Cocktails begin at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m.
