Huge senior year caps off an incredible career for Havre's Sadie Filius
It wasn’t just one season that led her to where she is now. No, Havre’s Sadie Filius is where she is because of a career dedicated to what she loves to do the most — play sports.
Indeed. Filius, now a freshman at Carroll College, is the 2022 Havre Daily News Female Athlete of the Year because she put together a remarkable high school career, and one that set her up for a memorable senior year.
In her final year as a Blue Pony, Filius once again helped the Havre High girls basketball team to the Class A state championship. A four-year starter for the Blue Ponies, under head coach Dustin Kraske, Filius wrapped up her brilliant career on the hardwood by averaging 10 points per game for a balanced, and loaded Havre High squad. In her last game as a Blue Pony, Filius scored a team-high 13 points and made key buckets in Havre’s thrilling state championship game win over Billings Central last March in Missoula. Over the course of the three games at state, Filius averaged 12 points and five rebounds as she earned Class A All-State honors for the fourth consecutive season, and captured her third state championship in the process.
"I'm just overwhelmed with joy to be here with this group of girls again," Filius said after the win. "It just feels good to know that I went out the same way I came in."
And that’s the thing. Filius came into Havre High a winner and she went out the same way. She also played in the prestigious Montana-Wyoming Game last summer. But, the four-time All-Conference and All-Stater didn’t just end her career at HHS on the hardwood. She also had an outstanding career in track and field, one in which she was an All-Conference and All-State performer for the Ponies. During her career in track, in which she also plans to run for Carroll, Filius was part of the school-record holding 4x100 relay team, while also breaking the school record in the 300 meter hurdles in 2021. During her time on the track, Filius also was outstanding in the 100 hurdles and 400 meters.
Of course, it isn’t just in the arena where Filius had an incredible career. She was also a star student in the classroom and that was just another feather in her cap in what was a very memorable 2021-2022 school year, one in which Filius was brilliant from beginning to end, just like she was for her entire four years at Havre High School.
Filius is now continuing her atheltic and academic career in both basketball and track and field at Carroll College.
