Hi-Line Girls BB: Knights, Beeters, Pioneers open 2023 with big wins

Hi-Line Girls Basketball Roundup

Girls basketball on the Hi-Line brought the new year in with a bang. The first week of basketball in 2023 was an exciting one.

Last Tuesday saw Chinook stay perfect in the District 9C with a 67-30 thrashing of Chester-Joplin-Inverness. Hallie Neibauer, Bree Swanson and Hannah Schoen all scored in double figures for the Sugarbeeters, with Neibauer pouring in 22 points.

Last Tuesday also saw Box Elder win a close game at Turner, as the Bears won 57-52. The Bears had a big lead in the fourth quarter, but the Tornadoes nearly caught all the way up. Ariel Gopher scored 27 points for the Bears, while Bridget Reed had 24 and Dakota Krass added 11 for Turner.

Last Thursday night saw Rocky Boy get thumped by unbeaten Malta, 75-21. In the loss, the Morning Stars were led by Amiya Four Souls with 10 points.

Back in the 9C, Fort Benton ran past Hays-Lodge Pole 57-20. Emerson Giese and Casha Corder combined for 39 points for the Longhorns, while Alliya Pretty Paint scored seven for the Thunderbirds.

HLP bounced back Friday night with a 45-43 win against Turner. Trailing at halftime, the T-Birds outscored the Tornadoes 26-15 the rest of the way. Pretty Paint poured in 19 points to lead HLP, while Bridget Reed scored 18 for Turner.

In Chester Friday, North Star opened 2023 with an easy, 68-38 win over CJI. The Knights jumped out to a 19-3 lead and never looked back as Laynie Sattoriva scored 27 points, Katlyn Domire scored 15 and Rainee Watson added 11. Brynn Kammerzell paced CJI with 16 points, while MaRae Small added 15.

In a barn-burner Friday night, Big Sandy scored a huge, 76-74 win over Box Elder as Eva Yaedon scored a whopping 39 points for the Pioneers.

Saturday's action in the 9C included CJI beating HLP 52-42 in Hays. The Hawks pushed through with a 17-14 edge in the fourth quarter. Jayla Ramberg pumped in 22 points for the Hawks, while Shaydyn Blount led three T-Birds in double figures with 11 points.

Fort Benton also rolled past Box Elder Saturday night, 55-26. The Longhorns broke the game open with a 23-3 run in the second quarter. Casha Corder scored 22 points and Emerson Giese added 18 for Fort Benton, while Melyah Oats scored nine for the Bears.

Chinook also continued its winning ways Saturday night, as the Sugarbeeters ran past Turner, 56-30. A 19-4 run by the Beeters was all they needed to put the Tornadoes away as Hallie Neibauer scored 20 and Alexus Seymour added 10 points in the win.

North Star kept winning Saturday, too. In a key 9C shodown, the Knights beat Big Sandy 53-48. An 18-11 fourth quarter was enough to get the Knights over the hump. Laynie Sattoriva scored a game-high 22 points for North Star, while Eva Yaedon scored 15 and Eva Wagoner added 12 for the Pioneers.
